Stock flange-to-flange on those cars should be 54 1/4" +/- 1/8" or so. The Mustang here has a Currie 9" housing with small bearing ends and we run 28 spline axles from the old 8".

Car with gas and driver weighs in a 2950 so you can check the math. 1.65 60 foot times on 9" slicks, 8" converter, 4.62 gears (richmond). This is a 289 though and does not make huge torque numbers. WebDec 23, 2006 · The 8.8 is quite strong, stronger than the GM 10 bolt and the Chrysler 8 1/4 that was on my '93 Dodge. The 8.8 was behind the older 351 equipped trucks long before the 5.4 came out and Ford starting installing the 9 3/4 in the 5.4 trucks.

A Ford 9˝ has a ring-gear diameter of, you guessed it, nine inches, closely followed by the 12-bolt at 8.875˝, with the Mustang rear at 8.80˝. Another strength consideration is pinion-shaft diameter. WebIdeally you want the entire clutch pack, including the shim, to be about .640 to .645 inch for a stock clutch pack and as thick as .655 inch for a performance pack (right). In my opinion the thicker pack performs better and a few pops during turns from the clutch pack are acceptable because you know what is causing the pops and are not worried.
